This month's meeting of ULU Council was inquorate, once again. This time it deprived Councillors of the chance to discuss the rivetting details of the nature of ULU's future relationship with Imperial College Union should Imperial College go ahead with it's stated intention of leaving the University of London.

In other news, there has been no formal report back or discussion on ULU's "Strategic Review". Rumours abound of an extraordinary council in June...

Is this a Marxist plotting his takeover?

MARXISTS INFILTRATE KCLSU
"King's College Lundie" to be established?

1 April 2004: In a shocking turn of events, key Student Union officials were today accused of being Marxists.

The exact names of those with alleged Marxist links cannot be published for legal reasons. However, it is thought that former Liberal Democrat sympathisers and those non-trustee executives may be among the defectors.

This comes as an unpleasant surprise to many students especially after the election of Conservative candidate Michael Champion and the private political views of the current President, David Dunne. The Society for the Study of Marxism (SSM) was also recently up for deratification although saved by the mercy of Student Activities Council.

The allegation, leaked by an anonymous incoming officer, results partly from the covert deletion of key topics on the KCLSU online discussion forum, particularly one entitled "STOP THE MARXISTS", yet the retention of a promotional topic regarding the Marxism 2004 conference.

Sources close to the Union point to David Lundie, former KCLSU Deputy President and contender for the Presidency as the fomenter of the discontent and possibly conversion agent for the Marxists. Formerly a member of the Tory party, Lundie's turning to the Dark side of politics was heralded by his election campaign in Autumn, when he stood for Academic Board. His posters featured waving red flags and publicity included posting well known Marxist anthems on the KCLSU discussion forum. He was also the initiator of the recent pro-Marxism discussion topic.

Lundie is also a supporter of the Unite against Fascism campaign, which has links to the extreme left. He is also well known to the Student Broad Left faction in London. A source within the University of London Union - with which Lundie has also been involved - told this reporter that when informed about the recent occupation of the Maughan library, members of the faction seeking more information were quoted as saying "Let's ask Lundie - Lundie will know!".

The University of London Union has also been linked with the Student Broad Left, after being hijacked in February by an unholy alliance of the usually reserved Imperial College and left-wing unions from LSE, UCL and Goldschmitts College. Their former President is a member of the Student Broad Left and Alex Coles of UCL Union formerly headed their Stop the War society. ULU President and Labour Party member Chris Piper, it is alleged, is also from the more left-wing of the party.

In Brief: Incoming VP Education & Representation Rajesh “Josh” Joshi denied any association with either the Tories or Liberal Democrats. On his registration with both societies recorded on the Union database he said, “I signed up with both because my mate wanted to keep the Lib Dems ratified and being the good public schoolboy I am, I wanted to go to posh events like the recent Conservative Future gathering at the Carlton Club.” He continued, “Frankly, I’m voting for the Christian People’s Alliance: anything to stop those evil Marxists getting into power!”.

The Day The Students Went Mad

Catch this documentary on Radio 4 while you can: it's all about a massive demonstration by London students in 1953 when students were told the couldn't have a rag Guy Fawkes demo.

One of the rules:
"all college rivalry is to be forgotten for the night"
